Module 1: Introduction to Global Education
Task 1
Watch the introductory video featuring Marcela Villán, who has been working as an Environmental Sciences and Global Perspectives Teacher at a bilingual school in Buenos Aires for almost 10 years. In preparation for our upcoming online meeting, take notes on the following:
1) Marcela's definition of global education
2) The 3 domains she mentions
3) The strategies she uses to address global learning and global citizenship in her teaching context
4) The main challenges she mentions
Next, write a solid paragraph explaining what you understand by global education, any strategies you may have used or are currently using to incorporate global education into your classes, and some of the challenges you have faced or are currently facing. If you have never tackled global education in your classes, choose 1 or 2 of the strategies mentioned by Marcela and explain how you would use it/them with your own students. Also, list 1 or 2 challenges you might face in doing so.
Task 2
Read the following opinion piece by guest blogger Homa Tavangar. Write 1 or 2 solid paragraphs addressing these questions:
1) Why is global education personal and relevant to YOU?
2) What "first step" can you take to help advance global education in YOUR teaching context? Refer to any of the suggestions given by Tavangar or come up with your own.
Get ready to discuss your ideas with your colleagues at the upcoming Zoom meeting.
